Complement Therapeutics (CTx) is an exciting early-stage biotechnology company focused on the research and development of novel therapeutics for complement-mediated diseases. The Company is a spinout from the University of Manchester and is based on the pioneering research of its founders into novel targets within the complement cascade.
Our lead investigational product (CTx001) is being evaluated as a potential gene therapy for dry age-related macular degeneration/geographic atrophy, a leading cause of blindness. Additional programmes will evaluate potential therapeutic opportunities in other complement-mediated conditions.

This is a unique opportunity to be a part of a small yet fast-growing team dedicated to developing advanced therapies for diseases that currently have limited options. As part of the paid internship, you will gain exposure to a range of responsibilities involved in running a biotech company, with a particular emphasis on understanding the scientific, technological, and disease-related aspects of gene therapy and the complement system.
Additionally, you will learn about the business and commercial considerations in creating biomedicines and how to position the company and its pipeline assets in the competitive landscape. By focusing on the science and business of biotech, you will gain a holistic view of drug discovery, translational research, manufacturing and clinical development of innovative therapies that can potentially make a significant therapeutic impact.
Responsibilities
- Assist in the R&D of CTx001, the lead investigational gene therapy product for GA
- Collaborate with the team in conducting scientific literature reviews and staying updated on the latest advancements in complement-mediated diseases and therapeutic approaches
- Participate in scientific and strategic discussions, providing insights and recommendations based on scientific knowledge and industry trends
- Support clinical operations of the i-GAIN Natural History Study by tracking study progress, enrollment, sample collection, and quality assurance etc., and ensure adherence to timelines and study milestones
- Support the business and commercial aspects of the company, including market research, competitive landscape analysis, and positioning of pipeline assets
- Support the management of social media calendars and develop engaging content for social media platforms
- Contribute to the overall growth and success of the company by actively engaging in various ad-hog activities and tasks as needed
Qualifications
- Currently in the final year or have completed an undergraduate or master’s degree in life sciences
- Additional qualifications/courses in business or entrepreneurship would be advantageous
